A Legacy of Broadcasting Excellence
Dan Miller was one of Tennessee’s most celebrated broadcasters, a trusted voice who shaped Nashville’s news landscape for decades. Over the course of his remarkable career, Dan earned multiple Emmy Awards and made history as the first on-air personality to receive the Governor’s Award for Lifetime Achievement.
For more than 20 years, local publications named Dan “Best News Anchor in Nashville,” and in 1986 Television/Radio Age recognized him as the Most Popular News Anchor in the United States.
Dan’s career began at Channel 4 in 1969, where he served as primary news anchor for 16 years before hosting the hit talk show Miller & Company for seven seasons. In 1986, he left Nashville to become principal anchor at KCBS in Los Angeles, later joining CBS Entertainment as Pat Sajak’s on-air sidekick on The Pat Sajak Show.
During his five years in Los Angeles, Dan appeared on The CBS Morning Show and Hollywood Squares, frequently guest-hosted Tom Snyder’s ABC Radio Show, and joined Snyder again on CNBC. He hosted and narrated the PBS special Patients Without Doctors and appeared alongside Michele Lee in the CBS movie The Dottie West Story.
In 1992, Dan returned home to Nashville, reviving Miller & Company on TNN before rejoining WSMV-TV as anchor in 1995. His exclusive 1999 interview with the parents of JonBenét Ramsey gained national attention, leading to appearances on Dateline NBC, NBC Nightly News, MSNBC, and Larry King Live.
Before his celebrated years in Nashville and Los Angeles, Dan honed his craft at stations in Augusta, Georgia—his hometown—and Columbia, South Carolina.
Dan was a devoted husband to his longtime love, Karen, a proud father of four, and a grandfather to three.
Dan Miller passed away on April 8, 2009, leaving behind an enduring legacy of integrity, excellence, and heart in journalism.
