OH BOY, BABY PICTURES!
By Dan Miller
April 6, 2007
After a wonderful string of daughters, WSMV's ace reporter Dennis Ferrier recently welcomed a son, Jack, aboard the world.
He did it, of course, with a bit of help from his lovely wife Lindsay.
And what's more fun than looking at baby (and family) pictures.... so I asked Dennis to share a few with us.... and to answer a few questions from Dan Miller's Notebook (**me**) about his gang.
(ME): Dennis, tell me about that first picture?
(DENNIS): Look at all the Ferrier girls. Lindsay, Natasha, Katrina and Gigi. They are all great girls and really fun to live with. They are also all bossy. Will they boss Jack around? Yes.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(ME): How about the two little ones together in the next photo?
(DENNIS): We were worried Gigi would be jealous of Jack, but she isn't.
"Daddy, Jack is crying, go pick him up now." She is impatient if I don't drop everything instantly and get him.
(ME): In the next 2 photos, Jack looks like he's checking everything out?
(DENNIS): This is a picture of Jack when he's not eating. That makes it a rare photo.
Jack was 10 pounds, one-quarter ounce at birth and 22 inches long.He was born on 3/14. I am told that makes him a "pi" baby.
We are not math people so I wonder........
Today he is 13 pounds! He is just three weeks old. We call him Bruiser and Big Jack and Squeaky. He sounds like a squeegee that doesn't have enough water.
(ME): After being a family of one guy and 4 females for so long, how will this affect the balance of power at home?
(DENNIS): Unfortunately, it won't for years. Drooling is just not an effective way to vote on family issues. Plus, I'm afraid he won't even know he's a boy until he's about seven, there's just so little evidence of "men" in our home. All those chick-flicks will be a lot to overcome.
(ME): How far into the pregnancy did you guys know this was going to be a boy?
(DENNIS): At 4 months they give an ultrasound that reveals the sex of the baby. The truth is, I told Lindsay we shouldn't even bother because it's going to be a girl. I meant it. I did not consider for ONE SECOND it was going to be a boy. I was FLOORED for the first time in years. I couldn't believe it. Didn't believe it for about 3 days.
(ME): So how'd you pick such a good, solid, American sounding name as Jack?
(DENNIS): I wanted something simple and masculine. I love one-syllable men's names. Jim, Jack, Sam, **Dan**. I didn't want one of the new-age trendy names.
Sure, he might live with Natashas and Katrinas and Genevieves, but he would be Jack.
(ME): How do all of Jack's older sisters feel about sharing the roost with a boy?
(DENNIS): At Baptist Hospital they no longer provide a bed in the room for anyone other than the husband. They said we don't care. They slept on the floor for two nights.
They didn't want to miss one minute of the birth experience. They were so excited. It's really touching because they are teenagers and very self-involved, yet this is huge for them, even though it affects everything from summer vacation plans to the amount of money they get for clothes. It's very cool!
My thanks to Dennis, Lindsay and the Ferrier girls for sharing Jack with us.
