A BEAUTIFUL PICTURE FROM FAR AWAY
BY DAN MILLER
(posted September 3, 2004)
When my new granddaughter was born August 1st in Europe, I learned something I never knew before.
Her name, by the way, is Elouise Sophie.
Interestingly, my daughter told me that, for a time, they considered using 'Miller' as part of her given name, but they quickly learned it wouldn't be 'approved' by the government, or whoever approves such things.
That's right.... in Germany (where my daughter and son-in-law live), and in several other countries, you can only use government-approved names.
If you can't prove the name has previously been a 'given name' in your family, you can't use it.
Oh I suppose, ultimately, you can call your child whatever you like, it just can't show up on the official paperwork.
I call my youngest daughter 'Squirt'....... wonder if they'd approve that.
Anyhow, Elouise is a beautiful name for this beautiful healthy child... and I haven't yet come up with my grandfatherly nickname for her..... but I will.
Click below and I'll let you see her...... oooh and aaah, all you like......
