A FEW MONDAY MUSINGS

Karen and I celebrate our 7th wedding anniversary today.
We actually celebrated yesterday when I was off work.... though it was more like a low key "recognition", since neither of us cares much for a party.
But I can truthfully say, I never forget our anniversary.
That's because.... she, knowing me..... had our wedding date engraved inside my ring.
And..... follow this closely......
Although I always buy her a gift for anniversaries and other occasions.... even if I somehow forgot, it would be OK, because one of the her regular GIFTS TO ME is - to pick out, purchase, and wrap a gift FROM ME.... to HER.
Can a man ask for more than that?
She's the best.
One of us (I can't recall whether it was Karen or me) suggested that we should spend our Sunday afternoon at home, watching a little baseball on TV, or perhaps a Three Stooges DVD.
But then, one of us (either Karen or me) mentioned we should go to The Hermitage for their display of antique quilts.
The quilts were beautiful. These are quilts made by hand more than a century and a half ago.
There's no better way to spend an afternoon than looking at old quilts hanging on a wall.
Depending, of course, on the company you keep.
The Olympic Games are over, and our late newscasts return to the 10 o'clock hour.
It's a big relief for everyone in the newsroom, since that extra hour between the early and late broadcasts seems to move like molasses.
You start wondering.... is anybody still awake?
Interestingly, the years I spent doing TV news in the Eastern and Pacific time zones, the late news was always at 11 o'clock, and it seemed perfectly normal.
I guess I'm now officially a creature of Central Time.
We can all be proud of the Americans who represented us so well in Athens.
As always, young athletes from all over the world have a way of demonstrating to the more mature "world leaders" that competing, cooperating, and getting along on this planet should be much kinder and gentler than we've made it.
The same thought crosses my mind after every Olympics........ wouldn't it be wonderful if, instead of bullets and rockets and bombs, we could simply pick teams.... play some games.... and settle our differences that way.
