A CHEAP AND EASY HALFTIME EXTRAVAGANZA

Attention high schools... here's an inexpensive way to entertain the fans at halftime.

Last week I wrote an essay about my boyhood dog Wiggles, and it apparently stirred up memories for several readers.

I've received more than a few emails about it, but one little story really caught my funnybone.

It came from Paula Rice, who passed along her recollections of a particular football game.

Paula writes:

Your Wiggles story reminds me of a football game between Hendersonville High and Trousdale County High, way back in the sixties.

Hendersonville High had asked Trousdale County if they could bring the band for a performance at halftime.
The response was "No, we have entertainment planned."

That didn't set well with the Hendersonville crowd, as they were very proud of their band.

That weekend, at half time, the teams left the field and the Hendersonville fans waited for the "entertainment".
Nothing happened...... until an old hound dog strolled out onto the field, stopped at about the 50-yard line, and pooped.

I'm sure the Trousdale County folks are still wondering why the Hendersonville fans laughed and cheered so much!

Thanks for the story Paula. There's nothing more entertaining than a dog show at halftime.... unless it's watching the players in the second half, trying to avoid being tackled at a certain spot on the field.
